Google the new Microsoft? That ain’t as good as it sounds!

Reading the recent TechCrunch article, Is Google at Risk of Becoming the Next Microsoft? provoked many thoughts in my mind. Here are a few additions to the article we think are very important to think about.

It does seem that Google is becoming the next Microsoft for many of the reasons included in this article.

Here are a few reason we think Google is on that path:
1) As the article states, “It’s all about people” and we couldn’t agree more. The people who join Google do so because they love to create. It seems much of the creativity at Google has transformed into acquisition and Google-ize.
2) When you become a global brand, things are expected of you and when you cannot deliver people begin to question loudly. All you have to do is look at Google’s quarterly earnings reports to see about that.
3) Competitors are created out of Google’s inability to innovate as quickly as they used to. Foursquare has taken the location based world by storm and no one remembers that Google bought Dodgeball years ago and closed it. They also launched Google Latitude which has been underwhelming to say the least.
4) Their inability to launch a successful Social Network is disappointing. We wish they would acquire LinkedIn and run as a separate company, much like they did with YouTube.

What do you think?
